About Katie

Over 25 years in the Canadian logistics and printing industries

With over 25 years in the Canadian logistics and printing industries, Katie Rodas is passionate about business. She created Five & Counting to be able to help companies with projects that might have been overlooked, under-managed or just outside of their internal abilities.

Her vision guides Five & Counting to provide back-office support to companies at all stages of growth.

Katie lives in Toronto’s Weston neighborhood with her husband, Carlos, and their two children. They are an unreasonably active family, participating in cycling, running, cross country skiing and Taekwondo. Katie has recently taken up competitive powerlifting and is a member of a local book club.

The Early Years

All in the family with retail, manufacturing & distribution

Katie is a third-generation business owner, with a family background in retail, wholesale, manufacturing and distribution. Before she was even a year old she was in a warehouse, playing with boxes. She attended Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) for Graphic Communications Management, studying the printing industry and industrial management.

The Inspiration

A lightbulb moment when counting inventory

One night working a graveyard shift at a magazine printer, she was using tally marks to note how many printing plates she’d produced that shift – the inspiration for our name Five & Counting and tally-mark logo was born.

The Experience

14 years project managing for big brands in 3rd party logistics

After a decade working for print houses, from family-run to the largest printer in the world, she found her way back to the warehouse. Katie worked for 14 years with an exciting, high-quality third party logistics (3PL) provider in the west end of Toronto. During her time there she became a leader in the project management team, leading new team members, providing guidance on complex projects and maintaining a client roster of prominent corporate clients, including World Wildlife Fund (WWF-Canada), GlaxoSmith Kline, Pfizer, Baxter Pharmaceuticals, and Mead Johnson Nutrition. Her work in pharmaceuticals required a high level of quality, which Five & Counting maintains.
